Yesterday, Wednesday, 27th August 2025, the E-Governance and Internet Governance Foundation for Africa (EGIGFA) in collaboration with the Digital Defenders Team successfully held an awareness training on “How to Stay Safe Online” as part of the 2025 GhanaSIG Fellows' Community Impact Project.

The engaging session was led by Dr. Joseph Budu from the Digital Defenders Team, who took participants through practical steps on protecting themselves in today’s fast-evolving digital space. His presentation emphasized responsible internet use, identifying online threats, and adopting effective security measures.

To reinforce the lessons learned, a quiz session was organized immediately after the training. The participants demonstrated a very positive level of understanding, showing how impactful the session had been.

The training was held in a hybrid format with participants joining onsite at the Pilot Technical Institute, Kokomlemle, and others connecting online via Zoom. This inclusivity allowed a wider reach, ensuring more people benefited from the program.

Adding to the richness of the session, Dr. Carine Malor, representing EGIGFA, delivered an inspiring talk on the importance of establishing Internet Governance Clubs in communities, particularly in junior, senior high Schools and universities. She stressed that such clubs will play a vital role in equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.

As part of this initiative, Pilot Technical Institute and Spring Well International School in Accra have been selected to pioneer the establishment of these clubs. This marks an important step toward fostering a culture of safe and informed internet usage among students.

The success of this awareness training demonstrates the commitment of GhanaSIG, EGIGFA, and the Digital Defenders Team in empowering communities with the tools and knowledge to thrive safely online.

Together, we are building a safer digital future for Ghana’s next generation.
