On July 3rd, 2025, students of Pilot Technical Institute (PTI) embarked on an exhilarating industrial tour—a day filled with learning, inspiration, and eye-opening encounters that stretched far beyond the walls of our classrooms. From our school’s basement to the heart of Ghana’s premier military establishments, this tour was both a technical and patriotic adventure.

Our first stop brought us to the 48 Engineering Regiment at Burma Camp, where we received a warm welcome and a brief yet insightful introduction to the unit’s operations. Though our visit lasted only about five minutes, it set an energetic and enthusiastic tone for the rest of the day. We were instantly reminded of the important link between technical knowledge and national service.

Next, we proceeded to the Ghana Air Force Base, where we had the rare privilege of stepping inside an aircraft hangar. There, we gained valuable insights into the helicopters and jet fighters currently in service. Our learning extended to a nearby field close to the runway, where military personnel educated us about various aircraft, their functions, and technical features. Seeing these powerful machines up close—and understanding the engineering behind them—was truly awe-inspiring.

The highlight of the tour was our visit to EMETTS (Electrical Mechanical Educational Technical Training School), a prestigious technical training institute within the military sector. EMETTS offers a variety of courses familiar to traditional technical schools, but what makes it stand out is its specialized training in areas such as gun and bullet manufacturing, car body design, and vehicle modification.

We were fascinated to learn that EMETTS is open to civilian students and workers, and its affiliation with the Accra Technical University (ATU) means students can earn certifications that have real value both inside and outside military careers. This blend of military precision and academic accreditation makes EMETTS a powerful launchpad for aspiring technicians.

The 2025 PTI Industrial Tour wasn’t just a field trip—it was an eye-opening educational experience that gave us a deeper appreciation for Ghana’s defense sector and the advanced technical training that powers it. From aircraft engineering to mechanical innovation, the tour expanded our horizons and sparked new ambitions in many of us.

We returned to campus not only with new knowledge but with renewed motivation to explore the technical world with curiosity and purpose.
